The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

What this verse means

When a child is sad, they might feel very alone — but this verse promises the opposite. God draws especially near to hearts that are hurting. He isn't far away when we cry; He comes close, and He gently helps. It tells children their sad feelings don't push God away — they bring Him near.

When to use it: A comforting page for a grieving or disappointed child, or a gentle way to talk about God's nearness in sad times.

Coloring and memory-verse tips

  • Say the verse aloud a phrase at a time while your child colors — coloring keeps hands busy while the words sink in.
  • Let them color the big bubble letters two alternating colors so the verse is easy to read from across the room.
  • Add the child's name and today's date in a corner, then hang the finished page where they'll see the verse each day.
  • Print on cardstock if you plan to use markers, so the colors stay bright and the ink doesn't bleed through.
