How to use Bible printables by grade level.

The same coloring page can be used very differently depending on the age of the child. Here is how to get the most out of each printable for each group.

Toddlers & Preschool (Ages 2–4)

Large, simple outlines with thick lines are best for toddler hands. Our four coloring pages are designed specifically for this age group — minimal detail, large shapes, and a single clear subject per page. Pair with a short 3–5 minute oral retelling of the story.

  • Use crayons or chunky markers — fine-point pens are too small for toddlers
  • Read the 2–3 sentence story summary aloud while they color
  • Ask one simple question: 'Who do you see in this picture?'
  • Display finished pages on the fridge to reinforce the story

Best pages: Noah's Ark, Baby Moses, Palm Sunday Donkey

Kindergarten & Early Elementary (Ages 5–7)

Children this age can handle more detail in their coloring and begin connecting stories to Bible verses. Use the coloring page as the opening activity, then transition to a short discussion or a related memory verse.

  • Read the scripture reference aloud together before coloring
  • Add a simple memory verse to the bottom of the page before printing
  • Ask: 'What did God do in this story?' and 'How can we be like [character]?'
  • Use washable markers for more vibrant colors

Best pages: David and Goliath, Noah's Ark, Baby Moses

Elementary & Sunday School (Ages 7–10)

Older children benefit from combining coloring with writing activities. After they color the page, have them write one sentence about what the character did, one sentence about what God did, and one sentence about what the lesson means for them personally.

  • Combine coloring with a written reflection ('What would you have done?')
  • Use the page as a take-home reminder for a lesson taught in class
  • Pair with a longer read-aloud Bible story from the same passage
  • Add cross-references — Noah connects to Jesus' baptism; David connects to Jesus as King

Best pages: David and Goliath, Palm Sunday Donkey

Quick start

How to print these Bible printables.

Every printable is free and print-ready, so it prints sharp on a home printer. Here is the fastest way to get a clean page in front of your child or class.

  1. 01

Open the file in any browser

Click the download link. Coloring pages come as a print-ready PDF (US-letter); the reading plan and verse cards open in any browser — no special software, Adobe account, or app needed.

  2. 02

Press Ctrl+P (or Cmd+P on Mac)

Use your browser's built-in print dialog. The line art prints crisply in black-and-white, so set the color option to 'Black & white' or 'Grayscale' to save color ink.

  3. 03

    Choose your paper size

Standard 8.5x11 (Letter) works for most ages. For toddlers, scale to 'Fit to page' so the shapes are large; for older kids, you can print two-to-a-page to save paper.

  4. 04

    Use plain or cardstock paper

Regular printer paper is fine for crayons. If you plan to use washable markers or watercolors, 65–110 lb cardstock stops bleed-through and holds up on the fridge.

In the classroom

Five ways to use these printables in Sunday school.

Bible story coloring pages are one of the most versatile Sunday school tools — here are five specific ways teachers use them.

01

Lesson Opener

Distribute the coloring page as children arrive. They color independently while waiting for the lesson to begin. By the time everyone is seated, they have already been introduced to the story's main character.

02

Story Review Activity

After teaching the lesson, hand out the coloring page as a review. Ask children to retell the story to a partner while they color — combining verbal and visual processing reinforces retention.

03

Take-Home Reminder

Send the coloring page home in a folder. Encourage parents to hang it on the refrigerator and retell the story at dinner. This extends Sunday school learning into the family week.

04

Memory Verse Visual

Print the coloring page, write the memory verse at the bottom before printing, and have children color it as they work on memorization. The image becomes a visual anchor for the verse.

05

Vacation Bible School Station

Set up a coloring station with multiple pages for each day's theme. Children can work at their own pace and take home a set of pages representing the week's stories.

Beyond the printables

Want a storybook Bible to read alongside them?

Printables are perfect for craft time — but for the story itself, a single storybook Bible is what most families reach for at bedtime. These are the two we recommend most.

Questions, asked at home

Frequently asked questions.

  • Are these Bible story printables really free?

Yes, every printable on this page is completely free to download and print. There is no email signup required and no payment. Click the download button on any page and it will download as a printable file you can print at home or at a copy center.

  • What age are these Bible story printables for?

The coloring pages are designed for ages 2–8, with the simplest designs (Noah's Ark, Baby Moses, Palm Sunday Donkey) best suited for ages 2–5 and the David and Goliath page working well for ages 3–7. The grade-level guide on this page gives specific suggestions for toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners, and elementary students.

  • Can I use these printables in Sunday school?

Yes, absolutely. These printables are free for personal and classroom use, including Sunday school, vacation Bible school (VBS), church nurseries, and homeschool settings. You may print as many copies as you need at no cost.

  • Can I use these Bible story printables for homeschool?

Yes. The coloring pages are designed to pair with short Bible story readings, which makes them well-suited for homeschool Bible time. Each page includes the Bible reference so you can read directly from scripture. The 'How to Use by Grade Level' section above gives specific ideas for different ages.

  • What Bible stories are available as printables?

Eight stories are available as printable coloring pages: Noah's Ark (Genesis 6–9), Baby Moses (Exodus 2), David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17), Palm Sunday / Jesus Riding a Donkey (Matthew 21), Daniel and the Lions (Daniel 6), Jonah and the Whale (Jonah 1–4), the Lost Sheep (Luke 15), and the Good Samaritan (Luke 10). We also offer a 16-week Bible reading plan and a printable set of memory-verse cards. We are adding new stories over time — check back for updates.

  • Do you have free printable Bible stories for preschoolers specifically?

Yes. All four of our current coloring pages are designed with preschool-friendly line weights and simple shapes. Noah's Ark and Baby Moses are especially popular with toddlers and preschoolers. The pages use thick outlines so small hands can color without going far outside the lines.

  • What format are the printable files?

Most coloring pages download as print-ready PDF files (US-letter, one page each) that open in any PDF viewer or browser. A few of the activity printables are SVG files, which also print clearly at any size. Either way, you can print directly from your browser's print dialog.

  • Do you have Bible activity sheets or worksheets, not just coloring pages?

Yes — alongside the coloring pages we offer a 16-week Bible reading plan (a checklist of stories in order with a box to color after each one) and a printable sheet of memory-verse cards to cut out and display. We are also developing more worksheet formats — word searches, trace-and-color pages, and story sequencing sheets — which will be added here when ready.

  • Can I print these in black and white?

Yes. All of our coloring pages are black-and-white line drawings — that is the intended format. Print them on standard white paper using any home printer set to black-and-white or grayscale mode. A standard inkjet or laser printer works well.

  • Do you have Christmas or Easter Bible story printables?

The Palm Sunday Donkey page is our Easter-related printable (it depicts Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday). We do not currently have a dedicated Christmas coloring page, but our Baby Moses page is popular year-round. Christmas-themed Bible story printables are on our roadmap.
