Psalm 23:1 in the Bible

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing.

Psalm 23:1 · World English Bible
For a child

What this verse means

A shepherd knows every sheep, keeps them safe, and makes sure they have what they need. When a child says "the LORD is my shepherd," they are saying God watches over them like that — personally and patiently. And "I shall lack nothing" is a quiet promise that they can trust Him to provide.

When to use it: A steadying page for bedtime or a worried moment, and a lovely starting point for memorizing all of Psalm 23 over time.

Coloring and memory-verse tips

  • Say the verse aloud a phrase at a time while your child colors — coloring keeps hands busy while the words sink in.
  • Let them color the big bubble letters two alternating colors so the verse is easy to read from across the room.
  • Add the child's name and today's date in a corner, then hang the finished page where they'll see the verse each day.
  • Print on cardstock if you plan to use markers, so the colors stay bright and the ink doesn't bleed through.
