Psalm 23:1–3
1The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing.
2He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

Questions parents ask
Is this a good first Psalm for a child to learn by heart?
It's probably the best one. Psalm 23:1 is short, concrete, and comforting: one image, one promise. Let your child color the page while you repeat the line together a few times, then hang the finished picture where they'll see it at bedtime. Most children have it memorized within a day or two.
Why is there a crook but no shepherd in the picture?
That's the sweet part of the design: the scene is drawn from the sheep's point of view. The crook resting right beside the lamb shows the shepherd is close at hand even when you can't see him, which is exactly what the psalm is teaching about God.
What ages does this page suit?
Ages 3 to 9. The lamb, crook, and letters are big and thick-lined for little ones, while the field of daisies gives detail-loving older kids plenty to do.
