What this verse means
This is one of the oldest prayers in the Bible — a blessing spoken over God's people for thousands of years. To be "kept" means to be watched over and protected. When a parent prays these words over a child, they are asking God to be good to them and to guard them, the very same way He has guarded His people since long ago.
