Matthew 28:1–6
1Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
2Behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from the sky, and came and rolled away the stone from the door, and sat on it.
3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.
4For fear of him, the guards shook, and became like dead men.
5The angel answered the women, “Don’t be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus, who has been crucified.
6He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying.
Questions parents ask
Why isn't Jesus shown in the picture?
Because the empty tomb is the point of Easter morning. When the women arrived, Jesus had already risen. The angel's words were "He is not here" (Matthew 28:6). The open doorway full of light lets kids see that the tomb couldn't hold Him.
Is this appropriate for preschoolers?
Yes. There's no cross or crucifixion imagery on the page, just the open tomb, sunrise, birds, and flowers. It lets you tell the resurrection story at whatever depth fits your child's age.
Would this work as an Easter Sunday school activity?
It's made for it: print a stack for the class, read Matthew 28:1-10 aloud, and let kids color while you talk. Asking "What did the women find when they came to the tomb?" gets even small kids retelling the story.
Which Bible passage should we read with this page?
Matthew 28:1-10 is the closest match to the scene: the rolled-away stone and the angel's announcement. Luke 24:1-12 and John 20:1-18 tell the same morning from other angles if you want to read further.
