The story behind this page
God becomes a baby in a manger in Bethlehem. Shepherds hear the news first, and wise men travel far to find Him.

About this scene
Big rounded bubble letters carry the verse across the top two thirds of the page. Underneath sits a wooden feeding trough with straw, one star with long rays, two smaller stars, and a plain border of leaves in the corners. The letters are hollow, so the words themselves are the main thing to color.
It works differently from a scene page. A child colors a word, says it, colors the next one, and by the time the sheet is finished the sentence has been read aloud eight or nine times without anyone calling it practice.

Coloring ideas for this page
- Give each word its own color. Children remember the sentence in blocks that way.
- Color the word Savior last and in the brightest color on the table.
- Outline the letters in a dark pencil first if your child likes crisp edges.
- Younger children can color the trough and the stars and leave the lettering to an older sibling.
- Tape the finished page somewhere at eye height and it will be recited all December.
What this page teaches
The whole of Christmas fits in one line. Born to you, today, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11). Four claims in a single sentence, and children can hold all four by the end of an afternoon.

Which translation is on the page?

What is David's city?
Bethlehem. Luke calls it that because David came from there, and Joseph belonged to David's family line, which is what brought the couple to town in the first place.
Is this too much text for a young child?
For a preschooler, probably. Give them the trough and the stars and let an older child work through the words. A six or seven year old reader will manage the whole sheet.
