104, running from Genesis to Revelation, with a short prayer at the end of each one. Crossway published it in 2022 with illustrations by Don Clark, and the hardcover runs a little over 500 pages, which makes it one of the longest books on this shelf. At one story a night it is roughly a three to four month read.
What age is The Biggest Story Bible Storybook for?
Crossway lists it for ages 6 to 12 and Christianbook repeats that. The sentences are longer than a preschool storybook and the theological vocabulary is heavier, so a four-year-old will lose the thread. Read aloud, a five-year-old can follow it with help. A confident reader of eight or nine can take it on alone.
What is the theology behind The Biggest Story?
Kevin DeYoung is a Reformed pastor, and the book reads the Bible as one covenant story moving toward Christ. Sin, judgment and substitution are named rather than softened, including in the Old Testament stories. Families outside that tradition will still recognise every event; they may notice the framing. Crossway also publishes a five-volume curriculum built on the same book.
Should we own this as well as The Jesus Storybook Bible?
They make a similar argument at different lengths. The Jesus Storybook Bible is 352 pages, aimed at 4 to 8, and written to be heard. The Biggest Story is over 500 pages, aimed at 6 to 12, and reads closer to a young person's Bible handbook with pictures. Plenty of families read the first one, then this one two or three years later.
How long does one reading take?
About five to eight minutes read aloud, including the closing prayer. The entries are much longer than the two-minute stories in The Beginner's Bible, which makes this a better fit for a family devotion than for the last thing before lights out with a tired three-year-old in the room.
